Top Load
Top loaders have been a laundry mainstay in America for many years. While still available for purchase, sales of these units have reduced primarily because they are rougher on clothing and they use so much more water than front loaders (45 gallons vs. 15 for a front loader). It has been predicted that they will become obsolete within three years because they will no longer meet new energy standards, and high efficiency models are coming in at lower prices.
